Collaborative Networks for Improved Care, Research and Prevention.

Advancing Cancer Care Through Collaboration

WP8 Network of Activities

Our Vision for a Healthier Future

Today, meaningful progress in cancer care depends on collaboration beyond borders — across institutions, disciplines and countries. This cooperation must be firmly anchored in the organizations that deliver care and drive research, particularly Comprehensive Cancer Centres, which integrate prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research and education at regional level.

EUnetCCC supports and accelerates the development of these collaborative networks across Europe. Through targeted networking activities, we facilitate cooperation, build shared infrastructure and foster joint initiatives and long-term commitment — delivering tangible progress where it matters most: at cancer centre level, for the benefit of patients.

EUnetCCC is committed to transforming cancer care in Europe through collaboration, innovation and equitable access to high-quality treatment and research for all patients, regardless of where and in which country they live.

We are working to strengthen a unified network of comprehensive cancer centres to enhance patient care, research and knowledge exchange across Europe — ensuring that every patient benefits from the highest standards in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Our Mission

Work Package 8 (WP8) is the engine behind coordinated collaboration among Europe's Comprehensive Cancer Centres (CCCs). As cancer care becomes ever more specialised — with precision medicine, smaller patient cohorts and rapid advances in diagnostics and prevention — no single centre can meet all challenges alone.

WP8 supports that CCCs across Europe have the structures, networks and tools needed to collaborate effectively, learn from each other and deliver the highest standards of care, research and prevention.

  • Connect CCCs across Europe to build a strong, unified network with the capability to create joint collaborative infrastructures and initiatives.
  • Enable effective collaboration across diverse healthcare systems and member states.
  • Accelerate the adoption of best practices in care, research, prevention, data use and governance.
  • Empower CCCs to become leaders for their region — not just in excellence, but in shared, scalable, high-quality cancer care.

Key Activities

Through the network activities developed within EUnetCCC, we coordinate a wide range of collaborative actions that connect cancer centres and strengthen their capacity across Europe:

Institutional exchanges & twinning programmes

allowing CCCs to learn directly from one another.

Expert seminars, workshops, collegial interviews and peer dialogues

fostering continuous professional learning and cross-centre exchange of expertise.

Conferences, roundtables and expert group collaborations

designed to tackle shared challenges and explore innovations across eight thematic areas.

Focus Areas

Eight Thematic Areas

1. Clinical guideline implementation

Strengthen the role of CCCs in implementing clinical guidelines, identifying gaps, and sharing experiences to adapt guidelines to different healthcare contexts and improve uptake as a reference for continuous improvement and knowledge building.

2. Personalised primary and secondary prevention

Enhance CCCs’ role in personalized prevention and screening through virtual organisational structures and Cancer Prevention Hubs, combining digital platforms and local outpatient services and enabling sharing of prevention research, tools and innovations.

3. Cancer research ecosystem

Support CCCs in expanding research capabilities and joint initiatives with high patient benefit (e.g., de-escalation studies), and in developing relevant research infrastructures such as bio-banking.

4. Precision diagnostics infrastructure

Advance precision diagnostics by promoting standardisation and harmonisation, knowledge exchange, and the development of specialised expertise across centres.

5. Secondary use of clinical data

Develop frameworks for secondary data use and standardised practices, enabling CCCs to build flexible, multipurpose clinical data warehouses to support both care and research.

6. Multicentre clinical trial capacity

Reinforce the ability to conduct high-quality multi-centre clinical trials, strengthening CCCs’ role in Europe’s research landscape and improving access to experimental treatments.

7. Survivorship programmes

Support the development and implementation of comprehensive survivorship programmes as a core CCC activity, tailored to the diverse needs of cancer survivors across the EU.

8. Leadership & governance development

Improve governance, leadership, operational efficiency and organisational structures through peer learning, networking workshops and a dedicated leadership academy.

Expected Outcomes

WP8 will provide meaningful opportunities for CCCs to engage in joint activities that enable professionals to grow their skills, share knowledge and build lasting cross-border connections.

When one centre finds a solution, others can implement it within their own context — benefitting from shared access to tools, good practices, and a supportive community that enhances daily work and long-term impact.

Collaboration models will be designed for scalability and adaptability, so successful approaches can be expanded to new thematic areas. WP8 will help CCCs to set up and adopt shared CCC standards and become part of a wider network committed to advancing cancer care and research in Europe.

While the Joint Action focuses on the eight thematic areas, the collaboration paths created will pave the way for new mutual learning and cross-area initiatives to emerge over time.

Contribution to the Joint Action

WP8 turns strategic goals into structured, real-world collaboration, demonstrating how joint action across institutions, regions and countries can strengthen cancer care and research in Europe.

At the Joint Action level, WP8 builds a connected and collaborative community of CCCs, delivering practical tools, validated approaches and joint initiatives that directly support long-term EU objectives.

WP8 also reinforces the work of other WPs by providing:

  • Contribution thematic and methodological to the capacity-building of WP6,
  • Tools and approaches that strengthen high-quality care and research expressed through the CCC standards managed by WP5,
  • Thematic and governance model support to establishment of care networks managed by WP9,
  • Mechanisms that foster engagement of network members for WP7,
  • Contributions to long-term sustainability efforts and success of the piloting of WP4.

Within the EU Network of CCCs, WP8 offers a collaborative arena for both certified and aspiring CCCs to exchange expertise, strengthen capabilities and benefit from structured cooperation — generating clear added value for professionals, institutions and, most importantly, patients.

For Member States and Associated Countries, WP8 provides a collaborative framework to activate shared resources, address common challenges and reinforce national capacities — supporting Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and contributing to alignment and resilience across European health systems.
