WP8 Development of Network Activities WP8 Infrastructure
Welcome to the May 2025 edition of the EUnetCCC WP8 Newsletter!
This monthly update brings you the latest developments from each WP8 task, showcasing the incredible momentum across our collaborative network. From surveys and strategic workshops to new educational initiatives and dissemination tools, every subtask is actively contributing to building a stronger, more integrated European network for comprehensive cancer care.
Whether you're deeply involved in a specific task or just curious about the broader picture, this newsletter is your go-to source for staying informed, inspired, and engaged.
Task 8.1 WP8 Infrastructure
First face-to-face meeting in the 8.1 and 8.3 core group
We are having our first face-to-face-meeting in our core groups in Maribor 27-28 of May. The plan is to continue the work with supporting the 8.2 sub-task. We will evalutate the work that has been done and plan future activities.
Task 8.2.2 Personalized Cancer Prevention
Advancing the Cancer Prevention Hub Framework
A revised draft of the Cancer Prevention Hub framework has been shared, integrating feedback from core members. The concept outlines a hospital-based model for personalized prevention, interdisciplinary collaboration and spreading awareness. Planning for the next in-person meetings is currently underway — stay tuned. Task 8.2.2
continues to advance toward defining practical, scalable models for cancer prevention
across EUCCCs.
Task 8.2.3 Cancer Research
Final results of EUnetCCC Research Ecosystem survey discussed at the Face-to-Face Core group
meeting in Oslo
Engaged members and participants from more than 30 cancer research-performing institutions in 20 European countries submitted their data to EUnetCCC Cancer Research Ecosystem Survey during the spring 2025.
The goal of the survey was to identify and map strengths and resources as well as obstacles and bottlenecks in cancer research.
The survey results were compiled by Task Lead of WP8.2.3 and discussed by WP8.2.3 Core group in a Face-to-Face meeting in Oslo on May 5-6th. The data from the survey were fundamental for selecting the most important and relevant topics for networking activities such as symposiums, workshops and twinnings for 2025-2028.
The following topics have been identified and selected so far:
1) De-escalation studies,
2) Cancer treatment resistance,
3) Functional precision medicine - ex vivo functional assays,
4) Biobanking and data sharing, and last, but not least
5) patient involvement in cancer research.

Task 8.2.4 Precision Cancer Diagnostics
Progress on capacity building, knowledge sharing, and dialogue
This has been a busy month. The educational seminar 1-2 December at Vall d'Hebron has confirmed
speakers, date, learning objectives. We clarified questions around corporate sponsors, budget, communications, and are actively working on opening registration.
The lead team pivoted from proposing harmonised guidelines for Molecular Tumour Board workflow, to instead host an active dialogue to discuss MTB guidelines from both ESMO and CanHeal. This dialogue with key representatives from each group provides a unique opportunity to address the discrepancies between the two sets of guidelines, and how to move forward with their implementation across the members.
Four site visits have been planned - Hamburg University Hospital will visit IPO Porto 6-7 July, Vall d'Hebron will visit Harvtig Foundation and NKI after the summer, Karolinska will visit Vall d'Hebron in 16-17 June, and Skåne CCC will visit
Gustave Roussy 5 november. Of these, three sending organisations have had dialogue with their hosts to define expectations, identify participants and to refine the agenda. These steps are crucial to ensure the usefulness of the visit itself. An evaluation survey and communication plan are under discussion to capture results and document these peer learning activities.
The lead team is busy working on the design and content for the knowledge sharing portal related to precision diagnostics: incorporating learning modules, best practices and reddit-like forum for exchange.
Task 8.2.5 Secondary Use of Clinical Data
Focus on governance and planning
At the end of April, we held our conference in Berlin. It was an important step in establishing our task. During the conference, we agreed that the work within Secondary Use of Clinical Data will be carried out in three focus areas:
1. Health data management and exchange
2. Childhood cancer equity
3. Knowledge center
We are now processing the material from the conference and working on governance so that we can begin concrete activities within our focus areas as soon as possible.
Task 8.2.6 Clinical Trials
Strategic In-Person Meeting in Lisbon to Advance the European Clinical Trials Engine
On May 15–16, WP8 held a vibrant in-person meeting in Lisbon , hosted by Unidade Local de Saúde Santa Maria. This gathering brought together core group members to take a major step forward in building the European Clinical Trials Engine.
Participants shared the first results of a Europe-wide survey on clinical trials — with over 100 responses from across the continent — offering valuable insights into current practices and challenges. The meeting also featured hands-on workshops focused on key topics such as exchange programs, educational materials for patients, public private partnerships, and expert groups .
Thanks to the collective input, we’ve started shaping the main pillars of our strategic roadmap for the coming years. Exciting progress — and more to come!
Task 8.2.8 Governance, Organization and Leadership
Inaugural Scientific Advisory Group meeting, and a Call for Interview support
On 9th May 2025 the Governance, Organisation and Leadership subtask welcomed distinguished academics in organisational science from across Europe to Oslo University Hospital for the inaugural meeting of the subtask’s Scientific Advisory Group. In an enjoyable and stimulating day, the group gave us much to think about regarding the
ongoing development of our Collegial Interview Process.
We are also using this month’s Newsletter to reach out to the other WP8 subtasks for support for these Collegial Interviews. Interviews will be Chaired by members of our Lead and Core teams, but we need resource to support Interview Chairs, to help them manage and prepare for Interview Events.
Interview Project Managers will also attend Interviews – so this is a great opportunity for someone who would like to be present at these in-depth discussions between leadership teams of CCCs and candidate CCCs. Please get in touch if you are, or if you know, someone who would relish such a role.
Task 8.3 Dissemination & Evaluation
Building WP8’s Visibility and Impact
As the communication lead for WP8 – Development and Implementation of Network Activities – I am excited to share our progress in building a unified, strategic voice for EUnetCCC Network. Our role in Task 8.3 is not just about sharing information. It’s about creating impact through visibility, alignment, and meaningful engagement. This month, we have worked closely with all Task Leads to streamline our dissemination processes—making sure every milestone, every story, and every innovation from WP8 is seen and heard across the network and beyond.
Whether it’s supporting educational seminars, collegial interviews, knowledge reports, site visits, or twinning activities, the communication team is here to
help disseminate your outcomes, amplify your success stories, and promote the shared achievements of our activities.
We are finalizing the structure for the upcoming EUnetCCC WP8 website, which will serve as a central hub to showcase our progress and engage external audiences, providing visibility and access to the full breadth of our network collaborative efforts.
By anchoring our strategy in shared templates, clear messaging, and active coordination with WP2 (Communication) and WP3 (Evaluation), we’re building strong foundations for long-term visibility and engagement.
Sneak peak into the Evaluation section of Task 8.3 - a draft plan has now been prepared outlining relevant time points for data collection. The plan is based on the timing of milestones, deliverables, KPIs and annual reports in WP8. The draft is to be discussed with the WP8 leadership team. More to come after the EUnetCCC WP3 Annual meeting.
Let’s keep amplifying our impact—together.
