OUR PROGRESS IN MARCH 2025

WP8 Development of Network Activities

Connecting Progress: Insights, Highlights & Collaboration Across WP8

Welcome to the March 2025 edition of the EUnetCCC WP8 Newsletter! This monthly update brings you the latest developments from each WP8 task, showcasing the incredible momentum across our collaborative network. From surveys and strategic workshops to new educational initiatives and dissemination tools, every subtask is actively
contributing to building a stronger, more integrated European network for comprehensive cancer care.

Whether you're deeply involved in a specific task or just curious about the broader picture, this newsletter is your go-to source for staying informed, inspired, and engaged. Let’s dive into what the WP8 teams have accomplished the last month—and what’s coming next.

Task 8.1 Infrastructure & Tools

Action group “Surveys – Guidelines and Harmonisation”

During the last month, we have formed action groups within 8.1 and started working actively with Survey support. Eneko Madorran is leading the group “Surveys – Guidelines and Harmonisation” in collaboration with representatives from Precision Diagnostics, Research and Clinical Trials sub tasks. This group provides an opportunity for an open dialog on Surveys, direct help and exchanging experiences with a common goal of making a useful guideline for conducting Surveys. All sub task representatives working on Surveys in their own sub task are welcome to join.

Task 8.2.1 Guidelines for CCCs

Work in progress

All six sub-groups in 8.2.1 are now up and running after their individual start-up meetings with the sub-task lead. The groups will report their progress and discuss upcoming problems both at individual meetings with the sub-task leads and with the rest of the core group at our bi-weekly meetings.

Task 8.2.2 Personalized Cancer Prevention

Prevention Activities Survey Launching Soon

This task focuses on establishing Prevention Hubs within CCCs to advance personalised cancer prevention through collaboration and structured implementation. Following the Oslo alignment workshop, key efforts have been directed towards finalising the definition of Prevention Hubs and organising working groups to refine their purpose, stakeholders,
and core activities. The upcoming workshop in Lyon will play a crucial role in consolidating best practices and explore the feasibility of the teaming activities. A Prevention Brochure is being finalised to enhance communication and visibility. By 2025, the goal remains to fully operationalise these hubs and integrate them into national and European prevention
strategies.

Task 8.2.3 Cancer Research

EUnetCCC Cancer Research Ecosystem survey has been distributed!

The main goal of Cancer Research Task is to unlock cancer research collaborations and synergies within EUnetCCC. The goal of our survey is to identify obstacles, abilities and resources at institutions performing cancer research. Core group members and participants of WP8.2.3 were invited to select responders for the survey at the end of February 2025. The survey was sent out to more than 30 selected responders representing cancer treating and cancer research institutions in the middle of March. We are now gathering information about obstacles and bottlenecks experienced by people working in the cancer research ecosystem.

In addition, the strengths, facilities and experiences will be mapped. We plan to tackle the information identified in the survey and initiate a pilot program to develop research networks and twinning activities. Topic "De-escalation studies and non-oncologic drug repurposing" is central for activities that we plan to start in 2025. Next, based on the data
collected in the survey, we will select other topics for activities across the network. We wish to receive contributions from as many institutions as possible affiliated to EUnetCCC. This will ensure that we hear a wide range of views and can prioritize fairly and appropriately.

Task 8.2.4 Precision Cancer Diagnostics

Educational Seminar upcoming – stay tuned!

Educational Seminar: During the core-group meeting in Amsterdam on March 19th, we finalised the first draft of the program and proposed speakers. The educational seminar is scheduled for the end of November, and we will now begin inviting speakers. The program has also been circulated to JANE-2 and JA-PCM educational tasks to ensure alignment
with other JA. We also received approval by the EUnetCCC leadership to make the seminar open to all participants. After the core group meeting, several members of the core group participated in the Clinical Cancer Genomics conference. The conference was organised by the six national genome centres in Europe and was held in Amsterdam on
March 20-21. Harmonisation and Standardisation: We have drafted the methodology for developing the
guidelines on behalf of EUnetCCC, which will be evaluated by the EUnetCCC leadership. Additionally, during the core-group meeting in Amsterdam, we reviewed the initial draft of the questions and agreed on the content.

Task 8.2.5 Secondary Use of Clinical Data

From vision to action plan

The work on the vision statement is intensifying. We are working hard to prepare for the spring conference with the core group, where we will agree on the strategic direction and focus areas for the work in the coming years. The goal is to leave the conference with a shared vision of the strategic guiding star and a foundation for which areas are prioritised, so that we have a solid basis for future operational planning.

Task 8.2.6 Clinical Trials

WP8 Task-synergies & a survey to identify gaps in

Clinical Trial Management – the steppingstone to shape the future of the Clinical Trials Task Together with the other Tasks in WP8, the Lead Team of the Clinical Trials Task had a very productive and hands-on meeting in Oslo. During the meeting we identified key synergies for future interactions, especially with the Tasks Cancer Research, Precision Medicine, and Secondary Use of Data. These potential joint activities will be followed up on during
the coming weeks.

From our Working Groups, the survey aimed to identify gaps in Clinical Trial Management and Regulatory Support has been developed further and tested on a small group and will be sent out the end of the month. Additionally, the Working Groups for Public-Private Partnership, the Exchange Program, and Educational & Informative Materials for Patients have been launched with inspiring and productive first meetings. Please reach out if you
would like to join any of these Working Groups.

Task 8.2.7 Cancer Survivorship

Building the Foundation: Working Groups and Survey Launch

Our team is currently assembling the four thematic working groups that will develop the Roadmap for Implementation of Survivorship Care Programs in EUCCCs. These groups will focus on medical follow-up, onco-psychological care, occupational support, and social care.

Simultaneously, we've finalised our mapping survey, which has been rigorously reviewed by both our core team and patient organisations. The survey is now ready for dissemination to Comprehensive Cancer Centers across Europe to map existing survivorship programs and assess current practices. This data collection will provide
essential insights to guide our development of survivorship care standards and implementation frameworks.

Task 8.2.8 Governance, Organisation and Leadership

Strengthening Leadership Connections: Twinning Program Expands Across Europe and Prepares for Advisory Group Launch

The Governance, Organisation and Leadership subtask is focused on helping leaders of CCCs and aspiring CCCs to develop new relationships and provide mutual support and learning via a Twinning program of collegial interviews. The subtask team collaborates closely with colleagues in WP4 (Sustainability) and regularly presents as part of the early Bilateral meetings held with pilot CCC sites.

This month we were delighted to be able to invite a pilot site in Lithuania to join our Twinning program and received confirmation from cancer centres in France, Germany and Sweden that they too would like to join. In addition, planning is underway for the first meeting, in May, of the sub-task’s Scientific Advisory Group who we feel will bring invaluable insights and advice to the program.

Task 8.3 Dissemination & Evaluation

Driving Impact Through Dissemination of WP8 Activities within EUnetCCC

Task 8.3 continues to lead the dissemination of WP8 activities through a coordinated strategy that includes the upcoming website, monthly newsletters, interactive workshops, and quarterly engagement tools such as webinars and social media posts. Regular coordination meetings with Task Leads, WP2/WP3 partners, and the WP8 core team
ensure alignment and continuous feedback.
