WP8 Development of Network Activities WP8 Infrastructure

Welcome to the June 2025 edition of the EUnetCCC WP8 Newsletter!

This monthly update brings you the latest developments from each WP8 task, showcasing the incredible momentum across our collaborative network. From surveys and strategic workshops to new educational initiatives and dissemination tools, every subtask is actively contributing to building a stronger, more integrated European network for comprehensive cancer care.

Whether you're deeply involved in a specific task or just curious about the broader picture, this newsletter is your go-to source for staying informed, inspired, and engaged.

Task 8.1 WP8 Infrastructure

First in-person meeting in Maribor

At the end of May, we successfully held our very first face-to-face meeting in Maribor. This milestone gathering marked an important step forward for our project, as we focused on defining our tasks and launching concrete activities. The meeting was both productive and energizing, setting a strong foundation for the work ahead. We are now in the process of establishing dedicated activity groups to drive our work forward. These groups will focus on key areas such as workshop design, surveys, webinars and Social Network Analysis.

The goal is to have all groups in place before the summer break, ensuring that each sub-task has
a clear point of contact and can move ahead efficently. This structure will help us stay coordinated and make steady progress throughout the project.

Task 8.2.2 Personalized Cancer Prevention

From Concept to Clinic: EU Prevention Hub Model Moves Forward

The Prevention Task (8.2.2) presented its progress this month at the Survivorship Workshop in Porto, highlighting the Cancer Prevention Hub concept and its alignment with Task 8.2.7. During the joint discussions, it was agreed to begin implementation with breast cancer as the pilot focus before scaling to other cancer types.

The Cancer Prevention Hub Framework, which has received extensive feedback from partners, is now undergoing final revisions. Later in June, the Core Group reviewed the first version of the Transferability Protocol and a new personalized digital risk interview tool—both designed to support scalable and tailored prevention services across
Comprehensive Cancer Centres. Final feedback is expected by early July.

Task 8.2.3 Cancer Research

Topic-specific working groups have been established

WP.8.2.3 has identified key focus areas for 2025 and beyond. To advance work in these areas, we have established four dedicated working groups, each tasked with developing relevant materials and activities:

  • De-escalation Symposium and Network
  • Biobanking Infrastructure and Biomarkers
  • Patient Involvement in Cancer Research
  • Twinning Activities for Research Projects

Task 8.2.5 Secondary Use of Clinical Data

From planning to action

Focus Area 1: Health Data Management and Exchange is leading efforts to harmonise and enhance the secondary use of clinical data across the EUnetCCC network. Our immediate priorities include mapping and engaging key stakeholders from each CCC, conducting a data holder’s (CCC’s) maturity assessment through a network-wide survey,
and developing a living data dictionary. We’re aiming for the first pilot run on a very basic set of clinical variables to commence by the end of 2025. Looking ahead, we are planning a Data Summit for Q1 2026, and more details will be shared on this later.

In the coming weeks, we will circulate a call-for-interest letter inviting CCCs to nominate relevant stakeholders (including IT experts, clinicians, data managers, legal advisors and patient representatives) to participate in the maturity assessment and join our working groups.

On June 16th we hosted the first online information meeting for participant institutions to provide further details on our planned subtask activities and how they can get involved.

Task 8.2.6 Clinical Trials

From Planning to Action: Next Steps for the Clinical Trials Engine

Following our productive Lisbon meeting in May, work is now focused on translating insights into action. Each Working Group is refining its priorities and setting clear timelines to shape our 2025 roadmap — and to lay the groundwork for the years ahead.

Task 8.2.7 EU Cancer Survivorship

Task 8.2.7 Advances Survivorship Vision at Porto Workshop

This month, our four thematic working groups advanced key deliverables in medical follow-up, psycho-social care, occupational support and social services through our Workshop in Porto. Early survey results highlight significant disparities and opportunities for harmonizing survivorship care approaches across EUnetCCC hospitals. Patient
representatives continue to shape our roadmap development, ensuring lived experience guides our framework design.

Key Achievements

1. Successfully mapped current survivorship programs across Member States, identifying
best practices and implementation gaps.
2. Developed patient survey methodology to measure survivorship care quality before and
after implementation.
3. Advanced our innovative Survivorship Hub concept through stakeholder consultations.

Looking Ahead

- Finalizing minimal standards framework for each thematic working group
Call to Action
- Join our thematic working groups - expertise in oncology, psychology, rehabilitation, or
social care welcomed, Link here
Impact Statements
- Transforming cancer survivorship from fragmented follow-up to comprehensive, patient centered care
- Building bridges between acute treatment excellence and lifelong wellness support.

Task 8.2.8 Governance, Organization and Leadership

More Cancer Centres join the 2025 program

The Governance, Organisation and Leadership subtask will deliver a program of Collegial Interviews in 2025. These will give cancer centre leaders the chance to engage in candid, in-depth conversations with peers about CCC governance, while building new relationships and networks.

We’re fortunate to have several Lead and Core team members with the experience and skills to support and facilitate these interviews. Each Interview Event will be led by a dedicated Interview Chair and supported by an Interview Project Manager. This month, we held a detailed briefing for the prospective Chairs.

Strong interest from cancer centres continues to grow the program. From an initial plan of 8–10 centres, we’re now pleased to include 16 cancer centres across 16 member states. This month, we welcomed new participants from Italy, Poland and Denmark.

Task 8.3 Dissemination & Evaluation

Boosting Visibility and Impact

We’ve kept strong momentum in June, building a clear and strategic voice for the EUnetCCC network of activities.
Introducing Prevention Hubs: we released a new video that introduces the concept of Cancer Prevention Hubs—bringing this innovative model to wider audiences.

Strengthening our presence: in close collaboration with WP2, we’re shaping the EUnetCCC website, designing a new booklet and developing key communication materials to spotlight our progress. Together with Task Leads, we streamline how we share seminars, interviews, reports and site visits—ensuring alignment with WP2 to maximize visibility and impact. Let’s keep amplifying our impact—together!

Task 8.2.6: Lisbon Core Group Meeting Transforms Survey Insights into 2025–Onward Priorities

The Core Group Meeting in Lisbon (mid-May) focused on presenting and discussing the survey results, followed by in-depth sessions on both ongoing and future activities. During the discussions, participants worked collaboratively to translate the key topics and insights from the survey into actionable initiatives. A key outcome of the meeting was the
prioritisation of topics of interest, which will serve as the foundation for more detailed strategic planning from 2025 onwards. These priorities will directly inform and shape the work of the established working groups, while the insights gathered will support the planning of activities beyond 2025, ensuring a forward-looking approach in the following
areas:
Exchange Programs – to share best practices across institutions

Educational Material for Patients – to support patients and patient advocates by empowering them to make informed decisions, engage in cancer research and centre policy, and educate others.

Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) – to leverage our European network to address challenges at institutional, national, and EU levels.

Expert Groups – to tackle clinical trial bottlenecks in a structured and collaborative way.
