OUR PROGRESS IN FEBRUARY 2025

EUnetCCC WP8 Newsletter - Advancing

Comprehensive Cancer Care Across Europe

EUnetCCC is a pioneering EU initiative bringing together 163 partners from 31 countries
to strengthen cancer care through a unified network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres
(CCCs).

Aligned with the European Beating Cancer Plan, it aims to ensure that 90% of eligible patients have access to a CCC by 2030. By fostering collaboration, harmonizing standards, and sharing best practices, EUnetCCC is transforming cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and research to enhance patient outcomes across Europe. Within this framework, Work Package 8 (WP8) plays a crucial role in developing and implementing network activities, driving collaboration, and ensuring effective dissemination of key outcomes.

Task 8.1 Infrastructure & Tools

Launching the WP8 Digital Hub: Empowering Collaboration, Knowledge Exchange, and Patient Involvement in EUnetCCC

A digital platform is being developed to enhance collaboration, knowledge exchange, and patient involvement across the EUnetCCC WP8 network. It will integrate best practices, challenges, and opportunities in networking and mobility for all stakeholders. In 2025, this hub will provide seamless support for WP8 sub-tasks, offering guidelines, workshop templates, webinars, survey tools, and data mapping—ensuring strategic coordination and information sharing.

Task 8.2.1 Guidelines for CCCs

Optimising Clinical Guidelines in Europe: Mapping, Comparative Analysis, and Strategies for Harmonisation and Innovation

This task will start by mapping the current use of clinical guidelines across Europe and conducting a comparative analysis to identify differences and propose strategies for a more similar and effective use and follow up of guidelines . In 2025, efforts will focus on addressing country-specific challenges, strengthening collaboration with patient and
professional organizations to find ways to improve guideline Additionally, the task will review standardization indicators and develop a structured model to support guideline based research and innovation within the CCC network.

Task 8.2.2 Personalized Cancer Prevention

Prevention Hubs in Europe: Mapping, Innovation, and Collaboration for Effective Cancer Prevention

This task focuses on mapping and improving cancer prevention efforts across CCCs in Europe. Surveys and interviews with healthcare professionals are shaping a clearunderstanding of existing practices. In 2025, the goal is to establish Prevention Hubs — collaborative centers for innovation and harmonization in cancer prevention. These hubs will document best practices, create implementation blueprints, foster knowledge exchange, and support policy recommendations at national and European levels.

Task 8.2.3 Cancer Research

Unlocking Cancer Research Potential: Overcoming Institutional Barriers and Building Collaborative Networks in Europe

This task explores institutional barriers, challenges, and research priorities across CCCs in Europe. A survey will soon be distributed to research directors to gather key insights. In 2025, efforts will focus on assessing institutional strengths and needs, developing twinning activities for knowledge exchange, and creating a pilot pipeline for a CCC research
network. Additionally, a network of patient representatives will be established to incorporate the patient perspective, with the aim of improving cancer research and, ultimately cancer care.

Task 8.2.4 Precision Cancer Diagnostics

Driving Precision Diagnostics Forward: Harmonization, Education, and Collaboration Across Europe's CCCs

This task focuses on improving precision diagnostics by identifying, harmonizing and sharing best practices across CCCs in Europe. Efforts are underway preparing the first site visits and harmonization and standardization workshop in June, preparing the first site visits and planning a first educational seminar early career professionals working in the molecular diagnostics in hospitals.

In 2025, the task will start drafting harmonized SOPs for CCCs related to molecular diagnostics, and establish a learning network through site visits, exchange programs and seminars. Additionally, the task are working with other joint actions (e.g. JANE-2, JA-PCM) and initiatives (e.g. PCM4EU, CANHEAL, CANSERV) to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Task 8.2.5 Secondary Use of Clinical Data

Leveraging Clinical Data for CCCs: Defining a Strategic Vision and Collaborative Pathways for Future Implementation

This task explores how clinical data can be leveraged to support a future network of CCCs. A knowledge report has been developed, outlining key themes and concepts, with insights to be shared soon. In 2025, the focus will be on defining a vision and strategic plan for secondary data use, proposing collaborative models, and conducting a small scale test of key concepts to guide future implementation.

Task 8.2.6 Clinical Trials

Transforming Clinical Trial Management: Mapping Challenges, Building Collaborations, and Strengthening Networks Across CCCs

This task focuses on improving clinical trial management across CCCs by identifying challenges and fostering collaboration. A survey and interviews with clinical trial managers and research staff are underway to map the current landscape. In 2025, the task will develop strategies to address gaps, launch a pilot exchange program for trial managers, create expert groups, engage industry partners, co-develop educational materials with patient organizations, and align with other EU initiatives to strengthen trial networks.

Task 8.2.7 Cancer Survivorship

Elevating Survivorship Care: Mapping Programs, Driving Collaboration, and Creating a Strategic Framework for Personalized Support

This task is mapping existing survivorship programs across CCCs and aspiring CCCs, with a survey set to gather insights from healthcare professionals. In 2025, efforts will focus on assessing program maturity, identifying needs, and cataloging available resources. The task will develop a roadmap for twinning initiatives, foster collaboration
between centers with different survivorship models, and integrate lessons from ongoing initiatives to build a strategic framework for comprehensive, personalized survivorship care.

Task 8.2.8 Governance, Organisation and Leadership

Strengthening Cancer Centre Leadership: Collegial Interviews, Reference Models, and Strategic Networking for European CCCs

This task aims to enhance governance structures and behaviors in CCCs to boost their collaboration and coordination capabilities. A series of five Collegial Interviews with ten cancer centres is underway, ensuring diverse representation across types and contexts. In 2025, the task will develop several Reference Models for CCCs, host two in-person
seminars and one online session to share findings, and launch a Leadership Academy to train cancer centre leaders. Collaboration with WP4 will support Reference Model analysis, and preparations are in motion to establish an Eastern European network of 5–7 CCCs for participation in 2026.
